“An initiative that fills us with joy and which testifies to the profound attention that this Pope has always had towards our elderly”: this is what Emilio Didonè, general secretary of the Fnp Cisl, said a few days after the initiative. “It will be an important moment for our Federation present with 1600 members from all over Italy who want to pay homage with their presence to His Holiness Pope Francis for what he has always done for the most fragile part of society, the one that is often placed on the margins as a cost and a burden, instead of recognizing their great value in terms of experience and wisdom for our society and our country, where the elderly population is increasingly numerous”.
“For this reason – continues Didonè – we must work as a union to offer our elderly an increasingly inclusive world, where we can create an ever deeper connection between grandparents and grandchildren, between old and new generations, capable of enriching our daily lives. In addition to this, it will be important to increase the assistance system, especially for our non-self-sufficient elderly people, as we are also trying to do through the new decree approved by the government which represents only the first step towards a new welfare system capable of responding to the new challenges of a longevity which does not always correspond to an optimal state of health, and recreating a cultural and political thought to protect the right to age peacefully and guarantee respect for the elderly person. The pensioners of the Fnp CISL will also be at the Pope to thank him for the continuous appeals and diplomatic efforts to restore peace in Ukraine and on Earth. “Too many people in Italy, in Europe and in the world are worried about the spread of conflicts and we are feeling anguish and concern about the worsening of war actions which are causing even more suffering to defenseless civilian populations, victims of bombings and violence ”.
