“The technical office of the Municipality is working on any checks and to evaluate any dangers to the safety of people – says the mayor Giuseppe Siviglia in a note -. We have identified the owners of the property who have undertaken, together with their technician, to remove the materials and debris, and anything that could become dangerous”.

One of the walls of an old building under renovation collapsed last night. The building stands on the corner of via Caruso Spinelli and via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour. No one was injured in the collapse. A few meters from the construction site stands a pizzeria restaurant, which was already closed at that time. The street, fortunately, was therefore deserted. Once the alarm was raised, several teams of the fire brigade and the carabinieri from the nearby San Cipirello station intervened on the spot.
The area around the building was closed to traffic for several hours. As a precaution, the two homes near the collapsed building were evacuated on Tuesday night. Among the inhabitants forced to leave the buildings for a few hours there was also Vincenzo La Milia, councilor in the nearby municipality of San Cipirello: “We heard a roar – he says – and the sound of rubble falling on the scaffolding. One of the neighbors immediately called the police who arrived within minutes and made the area safe by moving the parked cars.”
