War in Israel, Hamas: the video appeal of the hostage Herch Goldberg-Polin

Hersh Goldberg-Polin was captured while at the rave near Re’im, in southern Israel. The young man was seriously injured during the attack launched by Hamas. In the video he appears with an amputated arm.

The video lasts almost three minutes. Goldberg-Polin identifies himself and asks the Israeli government to bring him home. The audiovisual content is not dated, but the boy claims to have been a prisoner for “almost 200 days”, a detail which indicates that it was filmed recently.

The meeting between Rachel Goldberg-Polin and the Pope

Rachel Goldberg-Polin, mother of the young man, in her tenacious personal struggle to bring her son home, she also went to Rome where she had a meeting with Pope francesco.

It is not the first time that Hamas has implemented a similar media strategy. Strategy considered by Israel to be deplorable psychological warfare.

Rachel’s inclusion in the list is in recognition of her ongoing efforts – carried out together with her husband Jon Polin and hundreds of other families of hostages taken by Hamas – to raise awareness around the world of the hostage crisis.

“I want to thank TIME for my inclusion in the TIME100 and for recognizing the significance and severity of the hostage crisis and the need for the world to fight on their behalf until each and every one of them has returned home,” commented Rachel Goldberg-Polin.

“I pray – added the woman – that this platform will help force the world not to abandon these 133 remaining souls, who come from 25 countries, 5 religions, aged between 15 months and 86 years, and who have been held captive in Gaza for 194 days.”

“We must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of these human beings, along with the suffering of all innocent people in Gaza,” Rachel concluded.
