April 25: a day to celebrate.

Liberation Day on April 25th it’s therea day that marks the end of the fascist dictatorship. 79 years have passed since April 25, 1945. It is a day to remember those men, those women, young people, elderly people, who 79 years ago contributed to freeing Italy from Nazi-fascism. After a long time, it should be a celebration for everyone, because freedom is everyone’s heritage but there are still those today, trapped in the waste of the 20th century, who would have preferred to speak German or march at a goose step.

The commemorations of 79th anniversary of the Liberation they will be celebrated in various places and in many ways because the past does not mean forgetting and in fact, many people remember.

In Novi Ligure the program of celebrations begins on Thursday morning at 8.45 in via Garibaldi with the homage to the monument to the fallen of the Acqui Division and at 9.15 in piazza XX Settembre with the homage to the last Fallen of the liberation of Novi, MAVM Mario P Balustrade. At 9.45am the procession will start from Piazza Dellepiane, accompanied by the “Romualdo Marenco” Musical Corps, which will reach Piazza Pascoli for the commemoration interventions. At 10.30, after the celebration of Mass in the camp and the laying of a laurel wreath to the Fallen of the Resistance, there will be a greeting from Mayor Rocchino Muiere followed by the official oration given by Graziella Gaballo, president of the Anpi section of Novi Ligure. In case of bad weather the participants will concentrate directly in Piazza Pascoli for the laying of the laurel wreath. The speeches will be held in the hall of the Parish of S. Antonio in Viale Rimembranza, while the Holy Mass will be celebrated in the adjacent Church.

The striking English miners had a motto, taken up by Ken Loach in his latest masterpiece film: “If we eat together, we stick together”: If we eat together we will resist together. With this maxim, the Soms of Novi, in via Cavanna 12, organizes from 12 to 3 pm “Pastasciutta solidarity”, a lunch full of joy and hope for peace, open to those who want to remember the end of the Nazi-fascist dictatorship, and of their horrendous crimes against humanity. The day will be accompanied by the music of the Jam between Majin Blues and Quok, historical pillars of summer evenings. There will be craft beers on tap from St George, wines from Cascina Tripoli and Minaia Nicola Bergaglio, water and drinks for kids and teetotalers. The weather forecast for now seems favorable, with an expected temperature of 14°-16° but, iIn case of rain, the party will be postponed

An important event is scheduled for 9pm at the Tatro Giacometti in Corso Piave. It’s about “Partisans always!”, show produced by the “Memoria della Benedicta” Association and Anpi Cesena on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Resistance. The performance is a succession of stories, quotes, songs that bring to mind the sacrifice of men willing to die for freedom. The author of the text is Massimo Carlotto, the songs and music are composed and performed by Yo Yo Mundi and Maurizio Camardi, the direction is by Velia Mantegazza.

The celebrations will end Monday 29 April at 10am at the Boccardo Middle School in via Ferrando Scrivia with the laying of a laurel wreath in homage to the fallen of the Tuara. Students and teachers of the school will participate in the event.

TO Serravalle Scrivia, the Anpi and the Municipality invite citizens to participate in the celebrations which will begin at 9.30 in Piazza Guareschi from where, after the official oration by professor Ennio Morgavi, the procession will start heading to Piazza Cavalieri di Vittorio Veneto and following to the Park ” Ragazzi della Benedicta” and at the Old Cemetery at the Shrine of the Martyrs for Freedom. The procession will be accompanied by the “Pippo Bagnasco” Musical Corps.

In Val Borbera on Liberation Day the demonstration is scheduled “Walk of freedom”. The gathering of participants is scheduled for 9am in the car park located at the entrance to the town of Volpara, a charming hamlet of Abera Ligure; at 9.30 a walk of about 8 km begins, interspersed with stories and memories of episodes that occurred in those places, the scene of many episodes that occurred during the partisan struggle. The organizers recommend wearing trekking shoes. At 12.30 stop for a packed lunch (so remember to bring it). At the end, departure to reach Rocchetta Ligure, where at 3pm, there will be a guided tour of the Resistance Museum, dedicated to commander “Carlo” born lawyer Giambattista Lazagna. Participants will be offered a souvenir kit of the day. In case of bad weather the event will be held at Palazzo Spinola in Rocchetta Ligure, home of the Resistance Museum, starting from 10am.

The event will continue in Pertuso, where the stele dedicated to the Pinan Cichero partisans stands, located in the municipality of Cantalupo Ligure. A laurel wreath will be laid here at 4pm. This will be followed by greetings from the Mayor of Cantalupo, Pierluigi Debenedetti, and the Mayor of Novi Ligure, Rocchino Muliere.

Vignole celebrates April 25th with an official commemoration, with the laying of the laurel wreath to remember the fallen of the wars, to the monument in Piazza Figini. This happens in the morning after the religious service at 11.15am. Always in the morning around eight, and throughout the day on Thursday, the stalls of the Spring Fair, enriched with a sector reserved for crafts and hobbies. The space dedicated to children includes rides and inflatables. While those with a sweet tooth will be able to find comfort in the festival area, at the food stand managed by the pro loco volunteers.

Dernice, like every year on April 25th, dedicates a religious function for Franco Anselmi, the partisan Marco, commander of Garibaldi Arzani Brigade who operated between Val Curone and Val Borbera, one of the heroes of the Battle of Pertuso in August 1944. At the end of the mass, around midday, there will be the laying of a wreath in front of the plaque of the fallen of the Second World War, affixed on the facade of the Town Hall;

Moving on Vallemme. The passion for markets can also be satisfied in Lerma which celebrates the patron saint on Thursday 25 April. Stalls selling various goods throughout the day. From 12.30, the pro loco will serve the typical ravioli.

For those who love art, the voluntary cultural association L’Arcangelo APS proposes one guided tour of the Voltaggio Art Gallery, a seventeenth-century convent complex of the Ligurian Capuchin Friars which houses masterpieces of Genoese baroque painting. TO Tagliolo Monferrato on Liberation Day, the Anpi and the Municipality propose the show “We are the rebels. The Resistance comes from afar”. A one-act play where music and words intertwine; the stories retrace the twenty years of fascism that led to the war and then, through the Resistance, came Liberation. On the stage of the Municipal Hall, at 5pm, Gianni Repetto together with Paolo Murchio, Giuseppe Repetto and Niccolò Tambussa, among period songs and dialogues between the actor and the musicians.
