The death at work of Antonio Pistone, the young man maintainer 31-year-old who got stuck between the cabin and the door of the elevator he was working on, profoundly shocked the community of Aci Sant’Antonio, in the Catania area. Now, while the judiciary investigates to establish the causes of the tragic accident, complaints from the young man’s family are emerging regarding the working conditions and the lack of adequate safety systems.
The young man’s funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday 24 April at 4pm in the church of Jesus Christ and the Lord in Viale Giuspeppe Lainò 2, in Catania. “Our boy cared about his job and he wanted to do it in the best way Safe possible, even if this meant purchasing safety shoes and uniforms with their own money – the parents declared to Repubblica -.
The fact
The Catania prosecutor’s office ordered the seizure of the body and an autopsy to ascertain the circumstances of Pistone’s death. The investigations, conducted by the territorial command of the Carabinieri, will also have to reconstruct the exact situation dynamics which led to the fatal accident at work and therefore also ascertain whether the safety rules were respected.
According to what has been reconstructed, Antonio was carrying out the repair of an elevator alone on behalf of a specialized company, after an emergency call due to a woman stuck inside. The testimony of the young woman, who pressed the button to restart the elevator after receiving theindication by the technician, he helped to outline the dramatic moments that preceded the tragedy.
The judicial investigation will be fundamental to shed light on what happened. In the meantime, the local community rallies around Antonio’s family, demanding justice and greater attention to safety in the workplace.

Hundreds remember the soul full of life and sunny by Antonio Pistone, long messages were transcribed on the young man’s personal account: “Today there will be your funeral and even now I can’t believe that you are no longer here I didn’t want to say goodbye like this but cruel fate took you away now you are a beautiful Angel, please keep watch from above, above all your parents and all the friends who cared about you, a big hug and in any case not a Goodbye but a Goodbye, bye Antonio tvb” – writes a friend -.
Then yet another thought left on the young man’s bulletin board: “Today we really realize that you are no longer here… I will never be able to forget you… your voice, your way of being, your jokes, your dances and your wants to live…. I loved you from the first moment and it will always be like this!! I will remember all the moments spent together looking at our photos and I will try to smile just like you smiled!! Bye Anto… I love you”
Even people who did not know him personally wanted to pay a final farewell to Antonio, a boy who earned the affection of the city of Catania: “I never knew you, but the millions of words that were written for you, they brought pain and tears into my heart. For everyone it is absurd leave this life in such an atrocious way. Your immense generosity, Antonio made you fly away. A host of Angels will have welcomed you in Heaven. In your Catania and beyond, those who have given you the gift in this short earthly journey will find strength by continuing in your example. I love you.
