Negative balance for Ligurian businesses in the first quarter of 2024. Between January and March the balance between openings and closures of economic activities stood at -146 unitsa value however lower than the same quarter of 2023 in which the change was negative for 385 companies.
The companies in Liguria as of March 31st are in total 158,492: new registrations in the first quarter of 2024 were 2,801, an increase of 1.77% compared to the same period of 2023, but cancellations also grew (+1.86%) reaching 2,947. This is what emerges from the quarterly analysis of Movimprese data.
The balance of businesses is also negative at a national level: in January and March the balance between openings and closures of economic activities stood at -10,951 units, a higher value than the same quarter of the last three years, but still well above below the average of the last decade (-14 thousand companies).
When evaluating the data for the first quarter of the year – explains Unioncamere in its comment on the analysis – it is important to consider that, historically, this period frequently records negative balances, mainly due to the concentration at the end of the year of a high number of cessations of activity. A phenomenon of a technical-administrative nature which extends its effects on the Chamber archives even into the first weeks of the new year, influencing the data for the first quarter.
Going into more detail about the provinces, the balance between new openings and closures is negative in Genoa (-235 companies) and Savona (-21)while it is positive in Imperia (+29) and La Spezia (+81 companies).
The decline in Ligurian companies concerns all sectors, but in particular it is there‘agriculture to record the greatest variation (equal to -0.86%), followed by trade (-0.77%).
