The ten “golden rules” to respect to drive safer

To put an end to the silent massacre that takes place every day on the roads, the Automobile Club of Italy brings the new initiative of the International Automobile Federation to our country, with an online appeal as part of the global campaign for road safety “Action For Road Safety”, inviting motorists to support and respect “The 10 Golden Rules for safe mobility”. A sort of driving etiquette, which accompanies each rule with food for thought, even banal, which helps to facilitate its assimilation, as well as providing a “practical” explanation for the behavior to be followed. The first golden rule is “fasten your seat belts”, which should be associated with the thought “I am responsible for all the passengers”. Putting ourselves in the position that others depend on us is certainly a strong incentive to maintain virtuous behavior behind the wheel. The second rule is “respect the highway code”, accompanied by the mantra “the rules exist to protect us all”. Overturning the concept of rules, perceiving them as a positive element and not a mere obligation. Third rule, “respect the speed limits”, followed by the auxiliary retrothought “my car is made of metal, pedestrians and children are not”. Fourth rule, “check the tyres”, both wear and pressure, including the spare wheel. The fifth golden rule is “drive if I am not lucid”, because if I have drunk or used drugs I am a danger for myself and others, while the sixth is “protect the children on board”, with the use of child seats and other restraint systems. Seventh rule, the evergreen “don’t distract me” and the eighth is “stop when I’m tired”. “Wear a helmet”, “Mopeds and bicycles do not protect my head”, is the ninth rule, still often mistreated, while the tenth and last, also valid in modern civil society, requires “being courteous and respectful”, with the subtitle “I have respect for other drivers”.
