In addition to tracing the identity of the arsonist, the Local Police also identified and sanctioned a second person who had previously deposited, in the same bin, a bag of unsorted waste

The Anti-degradation Unit of the Local Police of Monopoli has reported the person responsible for the fire in a waste paper bin located in the center of Monopoli as free.

The man – a young man – (reported for the crime of damage following fire) used a lighter to set fire to both the roadside container owned by the Municipality of Monopoli as well as the (non-separated) waste placed there. The illicit conduct could have caused further significant damage also to private cars belonging to resident citizens. The investigations coordinated directly by the Commander and the Officers of the PL Corps also made it possible to identify and sanction a second person who had previously deposited a bag of undifferentiated waste in the same bin.

“Our commitment to combating perpetrators of environmental crimes continues – declares Commander Dr. Saverio Petroni – to sanction those who do not separate municipal waste according to the law.
The fight against the “thieves of the future” knows no respite; We ask citizens to stand alongside us to protect the environment and defend our splendid territory.”
