Greenhouse gas concentration in the air, a further pollutant also in the Agro Nocerino?

Greenhouse gas concentration in the air, a further pollutant also in the Agro Nocerino?

According to a study by Openopolis, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is constantly increasing, with an increase of 50% from 1980 to 2021. The main culprit would be methane, the probable cause of 30% of the rise in temperatures compared to pre-industrial era. Human activities such as energy production, agriculture, transport and waste management are the main sources of polluting gas emissions, with devastating impacts on the environment and human health.

The sick countryside

Even the Agro Nocerino Sarnese, a highly polluted environment, could be affected by the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases, a particularly alarming fact which needs to be verified. Methane, with an atmospheric duration of approximately 12 years, is particularly harmful, contributing to the formation of tropospheric ozone and the greenhouse effect. Its concentration went from less than a thousand to almost 2 thousand parts per billion, reaching the record of the last 800 thousand years in 2021. And the summer climate in the Agro valley brings doubts and suspicions that the ecosystem is suffering from this polluting phenomenon.

Limitation

Limiting methane emissions in these heavily polluted areas would be critical to countering global warming, with the potential to produce significant results given its heterogeneous sources, both anthropogenic and natural, including ruminants on farms and release from wetlands. Attention to this issue is of great importance to guarantee a sustainable future for the entire environment.
