He gets up from the stretcher and punches a nurse and an auxiliary. A new episode of violence against healthcare workers occurred last Saturday in the emergency room of the Augusta hospital. A patient, who arrived by ambulance for checks, could not tolerate the wait to be examined and, in the throes of a nervous breakdown, attacked a nurse and an auxiliary.
The man, who according to initial reconstructions was not in a serious emergency condition, got up from the stretcher and punched the two healthcare workers in the face, causing them injuries.
The attack was reported to the Carabinieri of the Augusta Company. The episode was condemned by the Commissioner of the ASP of Syracuse, Alessandro Caltagirone, who expressed his firm solidarity with the healthcare personnel attacked: “I strongly condemn the act of violence against the workers of the Augusta emergency room. healthcare personnel dedicate their lives to guaranteeing care and assistance to anyone who needs it and should never be subjected to violence. I ask all citizens to respect the work and dedication of our workers, so that they can continue to play their role in improve the health and well-being of the community without fear or threat.”
The CISL Fp Ragusa Siracusa union also expressed its indignation at yet another episode of aggression against healthcare workers. The General Secretary Daniele Passanisi and the Territorial Secretary Mauro Bonarrigo underlined the need to guarantee greater safety in the workplace: “The unfortunate episode of Augusta is yet another that we continue to record in all the emergency services of the province. It is essential guarantee greater safety for all healthcare workers. A national issue that requires a higher level of attention, more adequate responses and greater sensitivity on the part of all healthcare companies”.
