Medicalization of 118, mayor Saia “Agnone did not win, Venafro did not lose, no to a war between the poor”

AGNONE – From 1 May the 118 in Agnone will return to being medicalized during the night hours, while that in Venafro will be demedicalized at the same time with a view to rotation. It is the decision taken by Asrem to respond to the needs of Molise citizens.

“Evidently the blanket is too short – declares the mayor of Agnone Saia – there are few doctors on duty who cannot cover the shifts of all the stations in the region. Agnone didn’t win, Venafro didn’t lose. Because this must not turn into a war between the poor, but rather into a collective commitment to find a remedy for the real evil of Molise healthcare: the shortage of personnel.

And it is on this issue that the municipal administration has opened a discussion table with the general director Di Santo and the top management of the health company who, as they explained in Agnone in the meeting of the “The citizen is there” committee, work to making ends meet in a commissioner system for 14 years. Problems are resolved with dialogue and commitment, unfortunately there is no magic wand.

Administering a body is very different from protesting every day, a concept that is probably not yet clear to regional councilor Andrea Greco given that he has not yet had the opportunity to govern during his political career. It’s too easy to fuel fires with the usual provocative words, too easy to talk into the belly of citizens in difficulty without having real solutions in hand. There is a clear distinction between facts and rumors which often lead to vulgar populism, but we willingly leave the latter to others. For us, real politics is made up of dialogue and discussion, not of complaints and appeals.

In the meantime, thanks to the dialogue and discussion that we have opened with Asrem, on May 1st something will change in Agnone. But this cannot be the definitive solution and, in this regard, I express my closeness to all the citizens of Venafro. To arrive at a final answer that truly satisfies all the Molise communities we must continue to work in synergy, we will do this together with the Conference of Mayors which brings together all 136 of Molise’s first citizens”
