The host of the Rai program ‘L’Eredità’ clarifies his position after his comment regarding the ‘day of faith’

His comment on the ‘day of Faith’ in the episode of L’Eredità aired on Sunday 21 April on Rai Uno sparked controversy. Marco Liorni therefore relied on social media to clarify his words spoken during the broadcast. On 18 December 1935 the fascist regime established a day for the delivery of gold wedding rings to support the costs of the colonial war wanted by Benito Mussolini in Ethiopia, while Italy was hit by the sanctions of the League of Nations. The host had defined it as a “truly patriotic gesture”, a statement that was later harshly criticized on social media.
“In the episode of L’Eredità that aired yesterday there was a question that referred to ‘day of faith’ of 1935. When that question appeared on the screen it gave me emotions. It has been talked about many times in the family: it was a day of great suffering, taking away one’s faith in that Italy was a gesture of suffering and patriotism. There are people who have done it and wouldn’t have wanted to do it. I wanted to say to anyone who may have thought that we were praising fascism, and to the web thumpers through the keyboard, that I am an anti-fascist, I could never praise fascism.
