The Scientific Center of Trieste presents itself in Turin

“Trieste with its scientific center is a gem that we want to make known throughout the world”. Thus the Plenipotentiary Minister Giuseppe Pastorelli, Deputy Director General for Promotion and Innovation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at the opening of the Conference of Scientific and Space Attachés and Agricultural Experts hosted in Turin from 21 to 23 April.

Over the three days in Turin, the conference, entitled “Technological Italy, the engine of internationalisation”, offers a full program of meetings on strategic themes and sectors for the country’s competitiveness (from artificial intelligence to aerospace, from technological transfer to applied to agriculture) with the aim of offering a moment of exchange between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the network of attachés and experts operating at the Italian Embassies abroad and the main Italian scientific entities, of research and innovation.

The opening meeting of the conference, hosted yesterday afternoon in the Hall of Honor of the Valentino Castle, was dedicated to the scientific center of Trieste and saw the participation of the President of Area Science Park Caterina Petrillo, who presented the Scientific System and of the Innovation of Friuli Venezia Giulia (SiS FVG), of the Director of the International Center for Theoretical Physics “Abdus Salam” – ICTP Atish Dabholkar, who illustrated the UNESCO system in Trieste, and of the Director of the International Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – ICGEB Lawrence Banks, who spoke about research and technology transfer for the Global South. Some of the Italian scientific experts in the world then spoke and spoke about ongoing projects and/or initiatives carried out with entities operating in Trieste, including Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and TWAS-The World Academy of Sciences, in addition to the three mentioned above.

“The scientific center of Trieste has played in the past and continues to play a central role for the development of science and innovation as tools of cooperation and peace to support scientific diplomacy” explained President Petrillo during her speech in Turin . “Trieste is unique in the European context and is so both for its role as a bridge over the Balkans and Central-Eastern Europe, but also and above all for the quality of the scientific institutions that operate there. Due to its international vocation, it is a center of attraction for researchers from all over the world. Thanks to organizations such as ICGEB and ICTP it is a qualified and recognized interlocutor in the development of relations with the South of the world”.

In the month of October, Trieste will host two important international events: the Big Science Business Forum 2024 (BSBF), the conference that brings together the main European research infrastructures and industry, and a characterizing event of the G7 Research, dedicated precisely to dialogue and to cooperation with Africa.
