Carbonia wins 5 to 4 on the Villacidrese pitch and secures access to the salvation playout (there remains a weak possibility of direct salvation)

Carbonia, mission accomplished. Diego Mingioni’s team won the last away match of the regular season on the brand new Segariu pitch, against Villacidrese, with the unusual score of 5 to 4, and ensured the certainty of playing the survival playout . The defeat suffered by Tharros in Villasimius (3 to 2) and the home draw of Calangianus with Taloro Gavoi (1 to 1), also keep the path to direct salvation open with 90 minutes left in the regular season (Calangianus 38 points, Tharros 36, Carbonia 35), but the most probable hypothesis is that salvation must be achieved through the tail end of the playouts, with one between Calangianus and Tharros.

Segariu’s match, despite Villacidrese having already been mathematically relegated, was full of goals and emotions. Carbonia took to the field without Gabriele Dore, Ezequiel Cordoba and Edoardo Adamo, the lineup sent onto the field by Villacidrese was even more restructured, with 6 players out of line.

The start of the match was balanced, with Carbonia busy taking measures against Villacidrese, before sinking the shots. A quarter of an hour of study, then in 9′, between 17′ and 26′, Carbonia scored three times. First Lorenzo Basciu’s brace, then Tennyson Omoregie, with Andrea Porcheddu starring in the assists, brought Carbonia up 3 to 0. Game over? For nothing. A drop in concentration from Diego Mingioni’s men was enough to allow Villacidrese to reopen the match with two goals in three minutes scored by Matteo Cirronis, in the 42nd and 45th minute. Teams at the break at 3-2.

At the start of the second half Carbonia seemed focused again, evidently shaken by Diego Mingioni in the locker room, and in 11 minutes they put three goals between themselves and Villacidrese, first with Tennyson Omoregie in the 49th minute who beat the young Villacidrese goalkeeper Marco Sitzia from a few steps away (a brace for him), then with Lorenzo Basciu, who scored the first hat-trick of his career, tenth goal of the season, assisted by Andrea Porcheddu. 5 to 2.

Game closed? For nothing. Carbonia lost concentration again and Villacidrese, hurt by relegation and the many absences but very proud, created problems for Carbonia on the left wing especially with Fantasia and in the 63rd minute they scored again with Luca Muscas. Andrea Porcheddu tried to score a couple of times with mid-range shots, touching the post to the left of Marco Sitzia (17 years old).

As the minutes passed, Carbonia took care to manage the double advantage, halved again by Luca Muscas, with the conversion of a penalty awarded by the referee in the 94th minute. When the game resumed, the referee’s final whistle blew with the Carbonia players who went to celebrate with the Ultras who had come from Carbonia.

Before the kick-off, a minute of silence was observed in memory of Mattia Giani, the 26-year-old footballer from Ponte a Egola, who died after falling ill during the Eccellenza della Toscana championship match between Lanciotto Campi and Castelfiorentino.
