ANCONA – Prevention and early diagnosis: a combination that saves lives. Yesterday it was put into practice on the AF Mia, the first health ship in the world – branded Adria Ferries – which sailed the Adriatic starting from Ancona towards Durazzo with the doctors of the Torrette university hospital on board ready to visit the approximately 400 passengers.

The screening

A service created by One Healthon with the aim of raising awareness among citizens, institutions, doctors and the media of the need to promote the well-being of the planet. While waiting for departure and during the crossing to their destination, passengers had the opportunity to be visited by specialists in oncological genetics and breast cancer (with Prof. Rossana Berardi and Dr. Francesca Rossi), dermatology (Anna Campanati) , vascular medicine (Roberto Catalini and Alessandro Saturni), ophthalmology (Carlo Sprovieri and Paolo Principi) and clinical nutrition (Marina Taus, Loriana Finocchiaro and Marco Ferrara).

The voices

The mind behind the operation is that of Prof Berardi, president of One Health Foundation and professor of medical oncology at the Polytechnic University of Marche: «With the Nave della Salute – the hope of the primary – we want to offer those who travel for reasons family or work and has a moment of the day available, the opportunity to think about their well-being, through meetings with specialists who can prevent or diagnose the most common pathologies early. We trust it is a pilot project that can guide us towards the creation of other similar initiatives.” An appeal meanwhile taken up by Alberto Rossi, owner of the Nave della Salute and CEO of Adria Ferries: «I have been a shipowner for many years, but before that I was the son of a doctor. When it comes to initiatives that concern health and in particular the health of our territory, we are always ready to do our part.” An initiative «with laudable social value that we are honored to host» – the comment of the president of the Port Authority Vincenzo Garofalo – and which «helps us to remember the link between the health of people and that of the planet, in particular of our seas », adds Roberto Danovaro, Ecologist at Univpm and president of the WWF Scientific Committee. The route is the right one.
