Meeting on the port of Lavagna, crowded room with Lapetina

This morning, Saturday 20 April, the first public meeting organized by the “Lavagna Insieme” list for the electoral campaign of Claudio Lapetina.

Great participation

“The first sign to underline is the great participation in our first meeting – underlines the mayoral candidate Claudio Lapetina – synonymous with how much the citizens feel the need to be informed of everything that happens in our municipality. Today’s meeting was not aimed exclusively at criticizing the work of the council, but above all it wanted to demonstrate that there is a concretely feasible alternative proposal which would be in the citizens’ interest and not in that of a private concessionaire, who would have a concession of well 50 years”.

It was possible to listen to the lawyer’s contribution Gianni and have the greeting of the regional councilor Lilli Lauro.

“The tourist ports are of the utmost importance, a real driving force not only for the tourist part, but today they are absolutely strategic also on an economic level, it is therefore essential that a public body remains at the heart of the decisions. The fundamental reason why we are here is the need to open a public debate on the topic which has evidently been missing in recent years and why no paths have been put in place to manage the game and make this wealth work properly”, so the honorable Valentina Ghio.

“The port is a game that should be managed on multiple institutional levels, and also on this point in these five years the administrator has been totally deficient – continues the group in support of Lapetina -. The regional councilor Luca Garibaldi he in fact underlined how in recent years the issue of the port of Lavagna has never been discussed in the Region, therefore how the Municipality of Lavagna has never brought the matter to the attention of the body and how today we find ourselves managing it quickly, without having done any coordination and listening work either with the citizens, or with the operators, or with the individual Tigullio marinas.

The same choice as 50 years ago is therefore emerging as the world moves forward in a completely different direction: reconnecting the city to the port while also making an investment to generate wealth for all.

Mayor Mangiante limits himself to saying that a different choice cannot be made, without giving explanations: he must decide whether to be a mayor or whether to continue to be an accountant undaunted.

Even in the decision-making process on the future of the Port of Lavagna, the entire path that was established from the beginning for this electoral campaign is fundamental: with the citizens, with the associations, so as not to let the choices fall from above, as has well underlined the MEP Salini”.

“The current mayor – they continue – managed to get a lawsuit filed by the manager of the Port of Lavagna over the expiry of the concession and a new concession to private individuals could be the reason for new lawsuits with highly uncertain outcomes and costs obviously borne by the community”.

During the intervention of the lawyer Nannei it was possible to dispel some doubts:

“An alternative route to that of transfer to private individuals is concretely feasible through the creation of an in-house company, as already happens for example in the municipalities of Portofino and Chiavari, which would not specifically require the Municipality of Lavagna to take out new mortgages and whose staff would not burden the Municipality’s coffers, unlike what has always been supported by the Mangiante Mayor.”

He also highlighted that the state of bankruptcy ends on the same day on which the Port concession expires, and therefore despite the need to have a prior opinion from the Court of Auditors, there would be no further constraints on the creation of the in-house company in the form of a capital companies.

The city councilor spoke on behalf of the minority Daniele Di Martino which retraced the entire process of the discussion on the project and the reasons why the minority had already abandoned the Special Commission and subsequently the last session of the city council:

“Faced with yet another act of arrogance on the part of Mayor Mangiante and his majority, with the pretense of continuing council work without a true democratic confrontation with the opposition, and the possibility of actually intervening in the definition of the procedure, the minority has abandoned the Council in protest at the attempted sell-off of the port.”

Another underlining is that it was a hastily prepared file, “which contains obvious errors and was botched to say the least.”

He also illustrated the economic-financial plan of the project presented by F2I and approved with a forced majority of only part of the majority, in the last city council, which provides estimated revenues of 1 billion euros for the company compared to 80 million of total investment over 50 years, of which only a small percentage is destined for works of public interest.

“The room so packed, with people standing, is a symptom of the desire of citizens and operators to know and participate in the choices that will decide the future of our city. This is our working method and will continue to be: together with Lavagna, together with all citizens. Because together we can”, concludes candidate Lapetina.
