PESARO – Flood in the Marche, Matteo Ricci in Acquaroli (Pd): «In Cantiano unacceptable delays on resources, procedures and projects. Wake up, we need to speed up.”

The mayor of Pesaro, coordinator of the PD mayors, president of ALI-Italian Local Autonomies, started the bicycle tour called “Head held high and pedaling”. It winds along the old Via Flaminia and will take Ricci and a group of friends and supporters to reach Rome in 5 days, with stages of around 70km each.

In Cantiano he met the mayor Alessandro Piccini. «A year and a half has passed since the flood that hit our hinterland in 2022, and there are still major delays in providing refreshments to citizens and businesses, in securing the territory and in restoring infrastructure works. The Marche Region and the extraordinary commissioner Francesco Acquaroli must do their part quickly.”

«There are major delays especially in the allocation of funds, which have not arrived except in small parts. Then the delays in the organization of the commissioner structure which, for a long time, had no staff, while today it has insufficient staff. Then, the excessive bureaucracy: they were not streamlined the rules as happened in Emilia Romagna, so the mayor complains every day about delays that have not yet been resolved. President Acquaroli, who is the extraordinary commissioner of this work, should put his mind to following the matter. How much time must pass before these works are restored and the families and businesses that have suffered damage can receive a minimum amount of compensation? This must be the commissioner’s priority, responsibilities cannot be passed off. As far as I can, I will raise the issue at a national level.”

Piccini reiterated: «We have three major issues for which we are still awaiting answers: compensation for citizens and businesses, the securing of the territory and the restoration of infrastructure works. With the great concern that what happened could happen again, because in a year and a half no action has been taken to mitigate the hydraulic risk and the material is not being prevented from continuing to flow downstream. After a year and a half, what a territory has demonstrated its ability to do must be returned quickly. We have 100% of the activities reopened, many have believed in us, but now it is time to demand what we are entitled to: we ask that the projects be put to the ground and that a coordinated and effective plan can be put in place to respond to the problems in question quick times.”
