A documentary exhibition on Giacomo Matteotti 100 years after his death – CoratoLive.it

In view of the Liberation Day and on the occasion of the centenary of the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti, a documentary exhibition will be set up in the cloister of the Municipality of Corato which compares the two martyrs of fascism, Giacomo Matteotti and Giuseppe Di Vagno.

The exhibition, which will take place from 22 April to 6 May during the opening hours of the municipal offices, is organized by the ANPI section of Corato in collaboration with the “Giuseppe Di Vagno (1889-1921)” Foundation and with the patronage of the Municipality of Corato.

The aim of the exhibition is the re-enactment of the first victims of fascism: the socialist deputies Giuseppe Di Vagno and Giacomo Matteotti, murdered in 1921 and 1924 respectively.

Di Vagno and Matteotti, who historically are linked with an indissoluble bond from the clandestine anti-fascist fight to the Resistance in the two-year period 1943-44, do not lend themselves to political conflicts or revisionist operations, but have been consigned to history as defenders of freedom against all forms of oppression and violence.

The inauguration, which will take place on 23 April at 7.30 pm again in the cloister of the Palazzo di Città, includes greetings from Corrado De Benedittis (mayor of Corato) and Marina Mastromauro (president of ANPI Corato “Maria Diaferia”) and speeches by Daniela Mazzucca (president of the Di Vagno Foundation 1889-1921), Pasquale Martino (president of the provincial ANPI BARI) and Giovanni Capurso (historian and vice president of the ANPI Corato).
