A man sets himself on fire outside the courthouse where Donald Trump’s trial is underway: it’s serious

A man set himself on fire outside the courthouse today where you are carrying out the trial of Donald Trump in New York. The police and health services as well as the fire brigade intervened on site. Those present put out the flames and helped the perpetrator of the gesture.

The man, identified as Maxwell Azzarello, 37 years old, resident of St. Augustine in Florida, was then loaded into an ambulance and rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical conditionas stated by the agents in the press conference, adding that it appears to be “a conspiracy theorist“.

The dramatic scene was also featured in some videos from passers-by who were present in the area. In the videos, several people can be seen intervening to put out the flames while the man writhes on the ground, including one who finally takes a fire extinguisher and puts out the flames which were already high and had already completely engulfed the man on the ground.

NYPD officers arrived after the man doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire in front of the media crowding the area. Several stations, including CNN, were broadcasting live at the time.

A small demonstration was previously taking place on site so much so that the police had to remove those present who had flags and banners. The incident occurred a few minutes after jury selection in Donald Trump’s criminal trial, which has entered its fourth day and is taking place behind closed doors. The New York police said they are still investigating what happened but assured that “there are no threats” for the city “but an increase in the traffic in the area,” Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said.

According to CNN, Donald Trump has been briefed of the incident outside the New York courthouse. The former president apparently had a conversation with a Secret Service agent in the corridor outside the courtroom where the hearing in his trial is taking place.

Witnesses described the incident as a “political protest”, although it was not clear what kind. The man was seen throwing leaflets on Trump and Biden before dousing himself in flammable liquid and setting himself on fire. “He started throwing leaflets around and then poured petrol on himself. He took out a match or a lighter and completely set himself on fire. He knelt down as if he were praising someone. He didn’t say anything,” a witness said of the facts. Another witness interviewed by the BBC revealed that the man had been present in front of the court since the beginning of the week displaying a protest sign.
