explosion and escape with 40 thousand euros

ANCONA The ATM gang strikes again. This time the branch of the Crédit Agricole group which had inaugurated just 6 months ago in the same building as the Confartigianato headquarters has come under fire. It is the second raid on the Baraccola after the one that occurred on the night between Sunday and Monday in via Primo Maggio at the Banca Etica branch. Even in this second assault the bandits escaped with loot of around 40 thousand euros. And they adopted the same technique, that of the “marmot”, a mix of acetylene and gas inserted into the mouth of the automatic teller machine to make it explode.

The reconstruction

The explosion occurred around 3.30 the other night, when the alarm went off. The commando, made up of at least three hooded men (but it is not excluded that there was a fourth acting as a lookout and waiting for the accomplices in the car) managed to escape before the arrival of the police. The coup, in fact, was perfected in less than a quarter of an hour. The criminals entered through the pedestrian gate, which is also accessible at night for the needs of account holders, placed the explosive charge and then blew up the ATM. The explosion also caused extensive damage to doors, false ceilings and furniture, but to enter the gang needed to break through armored glass with a crowbar, the same one with which they forced another window, mistakenly: only afterwards, in fact, they realized that from there they did not access the bank, but the Confartigianato offices.

The cameras filmed the entire raid, including the escape with the loot, quantified at around 40 thousand euros – according to an initial estimate – which had been loaded into the cash dispenser, even if part of the cash was found on the ground, among the debris . The carabinieri of the Ancona Company intervened on site, with Lieutenant Nicola Caterino, colleagues from the Brecce Bianche station and forensic specialists. Investigators believe there is a probable link between the attack on the Crédit Agricole and the one carried out just 4 nights earlier on the Banca Etica: considering the methods and the location (still the Baraccola industrial area) it could be the same gang or in any case connected batteries.
