Health awareness starts from a young age. This is the heart of the meeting promoted today by the ASP of Messina, dedicated to the promotion of health protection and safeguarding. The project coordinator, Prof. Marzia Mancuso, organized the event at the municipal auditorium of Gioiosa Marea, involving the pupils of the lower secondary school of the Gioiosa Marea and San Giorgio complex, together with their teachers.
Dr. Maria Ausilia Catena, pediatrician specialized in nutrition and nutraceuticals of developmental age at the Asp of Messina, led the meeting by addressing the critical issue of obesity prevention during childhood and illustrating the fundamental principles of a healthy eating. The students had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Catena, exposing their questions and uncertainties, also regarding Eating and Nutrition Disorders.
The local administration was represented by the mayor, Dr. Giusi La Galia, and the councilor, lawyer. Joshua Giardina. The head teacher, Prof. Leon Zingales expressed satisfaction with the initiative, underlining the ecological orientation of the school and reiterating the importance of a healthy diet and the Mediterranean dietary model. Zingales also highlighted the information distortions spread through social media regarding nutrition, attributing them to the desire of the global capitalist system to standardize consumers and suppress diversity.
