This morning the reactivation of the link road for the transfer of water from the Gammauta Dam to the Castello Dam was communicated to the mayor of Ribera Matteo Ruvolo. The re-opening maneuvers of the adductor by the Reclamation Consortium had already begun yesterday following the increase in volume of the precious liquid in the Gammauta reservoir.
“This fundamental measure – states Ruvolo – will allow the Castello dam to be filled with water levels (hopefully) useful to support the needs for agricultural as well as civil uses, guaranteeing our farmers emergency irrigation in the months to come”.
Meanwhile, the Honorable Carmelo Pace has requested a hearing in the Productive Activities Commission from the Regional Councilor for Energy, Roberto Di Mauro, from the Regional Director of Civil Protection, Salvatore Cocina, from the Director of the Agriculture Department Dario Cartabellotta, from the Authority of the basin, Antonino Granata, to the director of Reclamation Consortium 3, to the Commissioner of Reclamation Consortium 3, Baldo Giarraputo, to the director of ESA, Carmo Turriciano.
A meeting requested to address the issue linked to the water emergency in Sicily and to draw attention to the situation of the Sosio-Verdura river which, despite the absence of rain last season even in a drought year like the current one, disperses in sea one hundred million cubic meters of water.
“We must avoid – Carmelo Pace, group leader of the DC at Ars – that the water is dispersed into the sea. This is why I believe it is necessary for a dam to be built near the river. A feasibility study would already be ready, with a drawn up project, for the construction of the infrastructure. It is therefore necessary to make every effort to make the most of the resources made available by the Pnrr and the structural funds and to start the construction of a strategic work for the present and future of Sicily”.
