Twenty-eight years have passed since the tragic death of Manuela Murgia, the sixteen-year-old from Cagliari whose body was found at the bottom of a canyon in Tuvixeddu on 5 February 1995. Despite the time that has passed, the story continues to raise questions and requests for justice.

The case was reported to the police on February 4, 1995, when Manuela disappeared after leaving home. Her body was discovered the next day in one of the many cliffs in the area, a discovery that deeply disturbed the local community at the time, including students from a nearby institute, who witnessed the constant coming and going of patrols. Despite initial investigations, the case was quickly closed and the circumstances of Manuela’s death remained shrouded in mystery. Post-mortem examinations revealed that the girl had fallen from a height of more than 30 metres, but the numerous marks and scratches on her body suggested scenarios other than a simple accidental fall.

Recently, almost three decades later, Manuela’s family relaunched an appeal for the reopening of the investigation, supported by the discovery of the original files and the autopsy results. Attention was also reignited thanks to a banner hanging on the fences of the former cement factory, which read: “Manuela didn’t kill herself, she was murdered.” This renewed interest in the case has sparked a wave of speculation and hope that new investigations may finally uncover the truth about what really happened that tragic day in February. The community and the family of Manuela Murgia are now waiting for answers, hoping that justice can finally shed light on one of the darkest and most painful mysteries of their local history.
