Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated after an Israeli attack on Iranian territory. This raid was conducted as retaliation for the over three hundred missiles and drones launched towards Israel by Iranian forces.

There was fear of an escalation of events that would lead to more informal raids, but fortunately, for now the alarm seems to have subsided.

Israel’s attack on Iran, tensions skyrocketing, but the alarm has subsided

It all started around 4:17 a.m. local time, when official Iranian television reported “strong explosions” near Esfahan, south of the country. General Siavosh Mihandoost, commander of the local army, provided an update on the incident, telling state television that there was no damage around the site where the attack occurred.

In response to reports of the explosion, Iran immediately activated its air defense and closed airspace over Tehran and other cities. Dubai-based airlines Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting their flights to western Iran at around 4.30am local time, without giving any formal explanation.

Hossein Dalirian, spokesman for Iran’s civilian space program, revealed that several quadcopter drones they were shot down during the accident. This information was also confirmed by a journalist from Isfahan state television, who reported the presence of several drones in the sky above the city.

Following these events, the German airline Lufthansa announced the extension of theinterruption of flights to Tehran and Beirut until April 30: “We will continue not to use Iranian airspace until that date,” the company spokesperson specified to ANSA. On the contrary, flights to Israel have already resumed regularly for a few days.
