Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated after an Israeli attack on Iranian territory. This raid was conducted as retaliation for the over three hundred missiles and drones launched towards Israel by Iranian forces.

There was fear of an escalation of events that would lead to more informal raids, but fortunately, for now the alarm seems to have subsided.

Israel’s attack on Iran, tensions skyrocketing, but the alarm has subsided

It all started around 4:17 a.m. local time, when official Iranian television reported “strong explosions” near Esfahan, south of the country. General Siavosh Mihandoost, commander of the local army, provided an update on the incident, telling state television that there was no damage around the site where the attack occurred.

In response to reports of the explosion, Iran immediately activated its air defense and closed airspace over Tehran and other cities. Dubai-based airlines Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting their flights to western Iran at around 4.30am local time, without giving any formal explanation.

Hossein Dalirian, spokesman for Iran’s civilian space program, revealed that several quadcopter drones they were shot down during the accident. This information was also confirmed by a journalist from Isfahan state television, who reported the presence of several drones in the sky above the city.

According to what was reported by Washington Postan Israeli official stated that the attack was intended to send a signal to Irana dangerous game where the aim is to demonstrate that Israel has the ability to strike inside the country.

Tensions then rose shortly before 5am, with the mermaids which resonated in northern Israel, as confirmed by the IDF, suggesting the possibility of imminent retaliation, which for the moment has not occurred. The attack conducted by Israel last night was not limited to Iran, but also involved some targets in Syria. Israeli drones have targeted Iran-linked targets, as well as unspecified others, including in Iraq.

Iran’s propaganda: “It is absurd to attribute the raid to Israel”

A few hours after the alarm, Iran triggered its usual propaganda machine. The Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Abdolrahim Mousavi, called reports attributing the attacks in Esfahan to Israel “absurd” and claimed the explosions were the sound of “flying objects” being shot down. Regarding Tehran’s potential retaliation against the Jewish state, Mousavi said Israel “has already seen Iran’s response.” A circumstance also confirmed by a senior Iranian official, who stated that the Islamic Republic does not foresee immediate retaliation after the latest affront suffered at the hands of Israel. According to an Iranian source, the raid was conducted by small drones, “probably launched from within the country itself.” The radar systems “did not in fact intercept unidentified aircraft that entered Iran’s airspace”. By contrast, the Israeli minister Ben Gvirleader of the most extreme fringe of the right, judged “moscia” the response made by Tel Aviv during the night.

Regardless of their veracity, the Iranian statements signal us Tehran’s continuing desire not to produce an escalation truth of the conflict with the Jewish state. They deny the paternity of the attack on Israel, Iran wants to continue its strategic intent to undermine the ability of the Jewish State to establish itself as a great defender of the Middle Eastern area in the eyes of the Arab monarchies. Mission ascribed to Tel Aviv by the USA with the Abraham Accordsthe real target of the Iranian strategy against Israel.

The United States “did not approve the attack.” And they limit travel

The United States immediately intervened, reporting that it did not approve of Israel’s response. The Israeli army, however, refused to comment on the events. Shortly thereafter, Iranian airspace reopened around 6:40 am.

The US Embassy in Israel then issued a security notice restricting travel within the country for government employees and members of their families. The embassy’s website specifies that they cannot travel “for personal reasons” outside the main cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beersheba. This warning, valid “until further notice”, prevents them from traveling especially to the north of the country, near the Lebanese border, where there have been almost daily firefights between the Israeli army and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah since October last. All US citizens are also advised to remain “cautious,” as “security incidents often occur without warning.”

Italy engaged in the diplomatic path

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani intervened to confirm that Italians in Iran are safe, while Defense Minister Guido Crosetto guaranteed to work at a diplomatic level to avoid further escalation in the region.

Lufthansa: stop flights until April 30th

Following these events, the German airline Lufthansa announced the extension of theinterruption of flights to Tehran and Beirut until April 30: “We will continue not to use Iranian airspace until that date,” the company spokesperson specified to ANSA. On the contrary, flights to Israel have already resumed regularly for a few days.
