A fire broke out during the night in the area that once housed the “Camino Real” nightclub of Pontecagnano Faiano, in the province of Salerno; the structure a few steps from the sea, confiscated from organized crime and abandoned for some time, has become an open-air landfill and similar episodes have already occurred in the past. This time the fire broke out around midnight, to extinguish it the Fire Brigade intervened with a fire engine and a tanker and also had to use foam extinguisher, they had to work for several hours given the amount of waste involved. The causes of the fire have not yet been reconstructed, investigations into the matter are underway.
The former nightclub was destroyed by a large fire in 2019. Two years later, in 2021, the Prefecture of Salerno seized the site, which had already become a landfill. A year later, in 2021, the recovery of the area was announced: the project involved the creation of an anti-violence center, financed with funds from the Campania Region intended for the reuse of confiscated assets.
