NEW YORK – The event which took place yesterday at the Consulate General of Italy had the aim of promoting Sicily through two major themes involving tradition and tourism. We are talking about the direct flight Palermo-New York, organized by the Neos company, which will make its debut on 8 June 2024, and the 400th anniversary of the Santa Rosalia Feast, scheduled for 14 July.
New York, Lagalla: “Giving the city of Palermo a new international image”
Present at the event in New York was the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla, who expressed great satisfaction for the future connection of Sicily with the Big Apple, also giving importance to Sicilian traditions such as the feast of Santa Rosalia, considered by the mayor as a of Sicilians in the world: “This 400th anniversary of Santa Rosalia also wants to be a moment to reveal what this new administration has somehow planned and begun to achieve, overcoming administrative and procedural difficulties that were a legacy of the previous administration. today, however, we are opening up new perspectives for Palermo – continues Lagalla – just as we are trying to give this city a new international identity”.
New York, councilor Amata: “Number of American tourists increased by 50 percent”
Also present together with the mayor of Palermo was Elvira Amata, councilor for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region, who instead focused on the numbers that see a constant increase in American tourists on the island: “These events are important for the promotion of our Earth. today we are here to present this direct flight Palermo-New York, which will start in June and we have already noticed a great interest, considering that among other things in 2023 the number of American tourists has increased by around 50 percent for various reasons, ranging between beauty and culture. For this reason it is clear that by even promoting a direct flight we cannot help but further increase this trend”, concluded the councilor.
New York, Sarnataro: “Our Boeing 787 among the most advanced aircraft”
Aldo Sarnataro, commercial director of the Neos airline, added some technical details for what will be the new direct Palermo-New York flight on the occasion of the event which took place yesterday in New York: “Operations will begin on 8 June with two weekly flights, one on Saturday and the other on Monday. the flight will depart from New York at 5pm local time, while it will take off from Palermo at 11.25am local time. The flight will be operated with one of our Boeing 787 series 9, one of the most technologically advanced aircraft, which also provides important comfort in terms of travel because it has a completely carbon cabin, a new pressurization and humidification system and much larger windows. This gives the passenger the opportunity to have a much more comfortable flight to absorb jet lag much more easily.”
