in Francavilla Fontana a meeting on the double surname

FRANCAVILLA FONTANA – A meeting on the subject of gender rights and equality. “Pari-Menti” is a project focused on the double surname, which is part of the public debate that has taken place at a national level. Appointment for Thursday 18 April 2024, at 4pm, in the Sala Belvedere of Castello Imperiali, in Francavilla Fontana. Barbara Belotti, professor of Art History, will talk about “gender inequality in toponymy”, while the lawyer Antonella Anselmo and the professor Carla Bassu (University of Cagliari) will deal with “practical advice and prospects for reform on double surnames” . The meeting will be introduced by councilor Sergio Tatarano (proxies for Civil Rights and Equal Opportunities).

And Councilor Tatarano himself explains: “The appointment on the double surname is a new chapter in the project on gender equality and perhaps represents what I care most about, as an administrator but also as a father of two little girls. We will have the opportunity to provide concrete suggestions on how to add the maternal surname to the offspring today but also to deepen the prospects of a reform that the Consulta has in fact outlined by declaring, with sentence number 131/2022, that ‘the automatic attribution of only the paternal surname translates in the invisibility of the mother and is the sign of an inequality between the parents that reverberates and is imprinted on the identity of the child’. A discrimination that can no longer be tolerated and on which the Legislator can no longer ignore it participation of authoritative speakers will be of great help to us in resolving the practical doubts linked to a change of customs on which Francavilla is at the forefront”.
