They come from Italy and foreign countries such as Slovenia, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Norway and will now be evaluated by a jury of technicians and experts chaired by Gabriele Salvatores. These are the 149 projects that responded to the “Shorts without Borders” call, which is part of the production program for GO! 2025 conceived by the Central Culture and Sport Directorate with the aim of creating, in the various fields of culture, original products that can, even in the future, bear witness to the 2025 event and ideally constitute a cultural legacy.

The five winning short films will be granted financial support of a maximum of 100 thousand euros each. The short films, lasting a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 20, had to have as their common thread the telling of an original and unpublished story linked to the concept of absence of borders.

From an initial analysis of the projects, it emerges that cinematographic and audiovisual production companies based in Friuli Venezia Giulia for 20% and national/international for the remaining 80% responded to the notice, some of which are well-known in the cinema scene. The five winning short films must be made and delivered by 30 October 2024, but the Fvg Film Commission may request a trailer for promotional purposes by 15 August.

“We wanted to gather the screenwriters and directors because, through cinema, we wanted to simultaneously promote the European Capital of Culture, Nova Gorica-Gorizia, and leave as a testimony an intangible asset destined to remain in the future. We are very satisfied and surprised by the enormous support that the call has received having received over 140 projects from various European countries”, underlines the vice-president of the Fvg with responsibility for Culture and Sport, Mario Anzil.
