BOLZANO. Improve the mobility of the area of Merano as a whole and make it more sustainable was the objective of the construction project of the funicular from Merano to Scena and of strengthening from the bus lines of Merano, Scena and Tirolo.
The provincial government has taken note of the decision of the Merano city council reject the initiative project for a non-road public transport connection between Merano, Scena and Tyrol. “This means that all public and private initiatives and, of course, PPPs (public-private partnerships) are excluded and the solution to the transport problem in Merano has unfortunately been further postponed,” he says Daniel Alfreiderprovincial councilor for mobility.
To finance the work, the Ministry of Infrastructure had already allocated 37.5 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The Merano city council then rejected the project initiative at the end of December 2023 with a negative general decision. “The council is committed to ensuring that the funds are not lost and can be used for a similar project in other areas of South Tyrol,” said Alfreider.
