Shooting in Castellucchio, the accused: “I didn’t fire”

MANTOVA «I didn’t shoot anyone. From that evening I only remember my daughter and her partner verbally attacking me while I was sitting in the armchair cleaning the gun. Then they hit me in the chest with a broomstick; From there a brief scuffle arose and in the general commotion I grabbed the gun by the barrel to defend myself. Then I heard a first shot explode towards me and I fainted.” Speaking yesterday in the courtroom before the panel of judges was Nello De Angeli, the 76-year-old former plumber from Castellucchio who was accused of the attempted murder of his son-in-law, the 47-year-old Alberto Dalseno, the latter drawn, according to the investigator’s hypothesis, following of an argument between the two inside the home they shared, on May 31, 2023.
A version therefore, the one given by the accused in the courtroom, different from what was reconstructed during the investigation and also supported by what was adduced at the trial by the defence’s ballistics expert, engineer Alberto Riccadonna. According to the consultant, in fact, «net of various omissions in the investigative phase, such as the failure to analyze the gunshot residue during the crime (also called stub test – ed.), considered a fundamental tool in forensic ballistics and used to determine the composition , the quantity and distribution of the particulate generated by the use of a firearm, in this case it seems plausible to believe that, both at point blank range, the first shot was fired, at the height of the excitement of the moment at the address of De Angeli and only the second against Dalseno. This is because, as De Angeli is left-handed, it does not seem possible that he could have been injured near the left nipple, even if he had held the weapon by the stock and not by the barrel.” Therefore, according to the CTP, the dynamics of the bloody crime are reversed compared to what the elderly man would see, holding his 7.65 caliber Beretta, legally held, first firing at his daughter’s husband and then turning the same weapon towards himself and shoot a second time. On this occasion, both were seriously injured, with the bullets not having damaged vital organs for a few millimetres, they were rescued and transported to hospital, Dalseno to Carlo Poma in Mantua and De Angeli (defended by the lawyer Cedrik Pasetti) to San Matteo di Pavia, where he was first subjected to a delicate surgical operation to remove the bullet from his side and then arrested by the police. A double action, although considered completely accidental, but with potentially fatal implications for both subjects involved, the prosecutor’s medical-legal consultant, Giovanna Del Balzo, simply stated.
