Gentleman Coach 2022/2023 to Claudio Ranieri in memory of Gigi Simoni
Claudio Ranieri. He is the 2022/2023 Serie B Gentleman coach dedicated to the memory of Gigi Simoni and voted by the preferences of the twenty coaches of the BKT Series. Ranieri had already won the award two seasons ago and succeeds Stefano Pioli, who had received the Gentleman Gigi Simoni in 2021/2022.
And the San Siro Tower was presented to him in Milan, the symbol of an award inspired by the most sincere values of football. Fair Play values that the current coach of Cagliari Calcio has always represented.
An award, the one dedicated to the former coach of Inter, Pisa and Cremonese, organized by the Gianfranco Fasan Gentleman Award with Lega Serie B. Gigi Simoni’s family was also present at the award ceremony together with friends and journalists Luca Tronchetti, Alberto Cerruti and to the president of CONI CRL Marco Riva.
Claudio Ranieri declared: “It is an enormous satisfaction to receive the Gentleman coach award on behalf of Gigi Simoni. A great man. Receiving awards voted by the coaches themselves is always nice and fills me with pride. Let’s live fair play because we need these values, great fairness.”
The president of Lega B Mauro Balata spoke at the ceremony and congratulated an extraordinary figure of Italian football. Claudio Ranieri is a point of reference for young footballers and young coaches but above all he is a disseminator of the best values of sport.’ ‘In a world where conflicts and arguments are often fueled, people like Simoni and Ranieri are points of reference and constitute an example of the best sporting values for everyone. We are happy to have established this award in memory of a great person and to present it to those who deserve it.’
The motivation – A deserved award not only for having managed to bring Casteddu back to the top flight. But for how he managed it, with a lesson in great sportsmanship: during the daring playoff final, in fact, which was resolved in favor of Cagliari in the 94th minute, the coach had asked and obtained from his fans to stop the insults and to applaud the fans of Bari, defeated on the pitch, demonstrating great respect for the opponents and encouraging sportsmanship between the two teams.
A gesture that all the Serie B coaches have not forgotten. This is why coach Claudio Ranieri was the most voted of the 2022-2023 season. A gesture of Fair Play that the Organizer Gianfranco Fasan applauded right away. Gianfranco Fasan declared: “It is a pleasure and an honor to reward Claudio Ranieri for the second time. His example does not end only with that gesture of correctness aimed at his own corner but is an example of loyalty and respect for the opponent who has always distinguished him and that does so much good for football and sport.”
The “Gigi Simoni” Gentleman Coach Award thus opens the proceedings for the 29th edition of the Gentleman Fair Play Award, which will be held at the Teulié Military School in Milan. An award full of values and continuous surprises. The Gala evening, organized with continuous passion by Gianfranco Fasan, and hosted by Massimo Caputi together with Laura Barriales and Giorgia Rossi, will see its celebration on the evening of Thursday 16 May. During the Gala, awards will be given to the Serie A Gentleman Footballers and the Gentleman Pier Mario Morosini to the footballer with the most Fair Play in League B.
