The Prefect Dr. Francesco Messina, the Army Corps General Maurizio Stefanizzi Interregional Commander “Vittorio Veneto” of Paduathe Mayor of Montegrotto Terme Riccardo Mortandello, the provincial councilor Massimo Momolo and the hero’s family testified a wreath at the foot of the tombstone commemorative of the event in memory of the firefight that occurred on 14 April 1983 in which the deputy Brigadier Alfredo Costantini, with the blessing imparted and a prayer in memory of the soldier rendered by the 2nd Chief Military Chaplain, Don Corrado Tombolan.
Also present were Brigadier General Giuseppe De Liso, Commander of the “Veneto” Carabinieri Legion, Colonel Michele Cucuglielli Provincial Commander of Padua, a representation of soldiers from the Company Command of Abano Terme, the National Carabinieri Association and ANFor as well as a students of the Montegrotto Terme Comprehensive Institute and of the municipal children’s council.
This was followed by a student from the comprehensive institute who read a short thought in memory of the Deputy Brigadier, his niece Anna Barboni, the Mayor of the Municipality of Montegrotto Terme, the Prefect of Padua and in closing the General of the Corps of the Army Maurizio Stefanizzi.
The words of the Prefect of Padua and of the President were particularly heartfelt and shared Army Corps General Maurizio Stefanizzi who recalled the feelings of self-sacrifice and spirit of sacrifice for the common good, exalting the figure of a Servant of the State who chose to fulfill his duty with honor and discipline to the point of extreme sacrifice, in coherence with the commitment undertaken by providing oath of loyalty to the Republic. There is no future without memory.
