BARI – The ASL of Bari has saved over 10 million euros in gas and electricity consumption costs in one year. The healthcare company thus confirms itself as virtuous and efficient in energy saving: in detail, as emerges from the analysis of the 2023 data, gas consumption led to a drop in spending equal to 2,591,730.79 euros as well as energy consumption cost 7,525,602.55 euros less than the previous year. Economic resources that derive from the plan to contain expenditure on consumption of supplies and which can be reinvested.
Bill costs have been reduced thanks to the use of a platform that monitors gas and electricity consumption in healthcare facilities and which has highlighted a notable reduction in costs with clear results in quantitative and monetary terms, especially in the comparison between 2022 and 2023.
Electricity expenditure during 2023 was a total of 14,625,648.65 euros while the previous year, in 2022, was 22,151,251.20 with a difference of 34% which can be quantified as over 7 million and half a euro less economic resources. The same economic efficiency is found in gas consumption: compared to 7,753,490.80 euros spent in 2022, in 2023 the company’s turnover in this expenditure item was 5,161,760.01 euros with a difference of approximately 33 ,43%.
For a healthcare facility, energy costs can represent up to 3% of total costs; more than 40% of energy consumption is due to air conditioning systems, while lighting, domestic hot water and laundry account for approximately 15% each. The complexity of energy uses in hospitals and healthcare facilities therefore suggests a detailed and constant mapping of consumption, both to carry out energy diagnosis, aimed at activating energy efficiency paths, and for managing energy over time.
Hence the adoption by the ASL of a monitoring system that allows the company’s technical area to carry out a preventive analysis to evaluate the best market conditions and contractual and technological proposals. Through this remote management software it is possible to centrally control the consumption data of the entire company, even from multiple locations, as well as simplifying the management processes of electricity and gas users, and promptly discovering any discrepancies with respect to to standard parameters.
