The Lanzo volunteer fire brigade needs a new fire engine

Over the last few years, the volunteer firefighters of Lanzo have never stopped doing their utmost to serve the territory and its critical issues. Below is the balance of the rescue interventions: in 2020 as many as 156, 2021 (85), 2022 (78), in 2023 the new peak was reached with 154. It should be specified that during the period of closures due to Covid, the detachment has always guaranteed continuity in the service for emergencies, sanitization, surveillance and distribution of basic necessities. During the summer period, the area concerned sees an increase in the number of residents due to the many holiday homes and attractions linked to the mountain environment. A factor to consider is also the distance of the first permanent detachment closest to Lanzo, i.e. the Turin Command in Corso Regina Margherita with an estimated arrival time of 30 minutes. In 2023 the staff of the Lanzese Detachment has increased by three units while two other aspirants are carrying out the entry course for initial training, at the moment the staff numbers 22 firefighters: 3 team leaders, 6 drivers, 13 firefighters. The headquarters is the scene of mandatory staff training, there are periodic checks to verify the functioning of the vehicles and equipment as well as cleaning of the headquarters, training sessions, meetings and supervision. The number of operators present for the intervention is 5-8 units. At the moment the section has 5 emergency vehicles complete with rescue equipment both for firefighting activities and for road accidents or fires of various types. Two of the vehicles are now obsolete and replacement with a tank fire engine now at the Bolzano Corps is being evaluated, which can accommodate a team and transport water and equipment to the site of the intervention. The Lanzase section has always been committed to financing the activities and projects of the Detachment with the support of local authorities and with donations from activities and citizens. The aim is to support the section, to allow operators to carry out their volunteer tasks which are essential for the community with professionalism and in complete safety. A total territory of more than 700 square kilometers and with approximately 27,000 inhabitants is covered and monitored. 13 municipalities in the Lanzo Valleys are assisted as first departure and another nine as second – third departure. Given the mountainous nature of our area and the many scattered villages it presents difficult roads, a multi-purpose vehicle with all-wheel drive would be appropriate. The last update of the vehicles dates back to the early 2000s and given the problems that would require expensive repairs already attempted in the past it would be better to replace the obsolete vehicles by improving the operational capacity of the section towards the community.
