«I like to think of Castel San Pietro Terme as a small Food and Wellness Valley. For us, the olive tree is a valuable crop, olive growing and oil production are an economic system that not only brings wealth from an economic point of view, but has great cultural, tourist and landscape value – comments the mayor Fausto Tinti –. In our territory there are farms with an impressive oil production which has also received important prizes and recognitions and with a potential that will develop further in the coming years, and also many other farmers of different sizes who have chosen olive growing and produce oil of excellent quality for sale or for own consumption. Membership in the national association Città dell’Olio is one of the tools we have chosen to achieve one of the objectives of the mandate program of this municipal administration, which envisaged precisely identifying useful actions for the economic valorisation of the agricultural territory, even under the tourist, environmental, cultural and food and wine profile. It was a choice consistent with our identity as a Slow City, which promotes the valorization of the territory, its products and excellence and a lifestyle based on well-being and sustainability.”

The meeting at the Cassero will open at 11 am with greetings from Fausto Tintimayor of the municipality of Castel San Pietro Terme e Claudio Franceschidelegated councilor for Agriculture of the New Imola District, which will be followed by speeches by: Tullia Gallina Toschifull professor of the Department of Agro-Food Sciences and Technologies of the University of Bologna, “The rules, the pleasure of EVO oil, together with the value of the DOP and IGP certifications”; Natalia Rossosenior scientist of the Italian Liver Foundation, “EVO oil and its benefits for the liver”; Francesco Domenico Rivellipresident of LILT – Italian League against Tumors Bologna Section, “Prevention beats cancer”; Antonio Caponeprofessional taster of the National List of technicians and experts in virgin and extra virgin olive oils and teacher of the Evoo School Foundation, “How to become professionals in the field of extra virgin olive oil”; Eleonora Berardihead of Food Division Palazzo di Varignana, “The oil-centric experiences of Palazzo di Varignana”. In conclusion Orio Mocellinmember of the Council of the Città dell’Olio Association, will talk about “The Oil Communities: purpose of the Città dell’Olio brand”. The journalist Donatella Barbetta hosts.

L’National Association of Oil Cities, which is based in the municipality of Monteriggioni (Siena), was founded in 1994 and therefore turns 30 this year. It brings together the Municipalities, the Provinces, the Chambers of Commerce, the LAGs (Local Action Groups) – in accordance with European legislation – and the Parks, located in territories in which oils are produced which document an adequate olive-growing tradition connected to environmental values, historical, cultural and/or falling within a Designation of Origin. Specifically, one of the main tasks of the Association is to disseminate the culture of the olive tree and quality olive oil; protect and promote the environment and the olive-growing landscape; spread the history of olive growing; guarantee the consumer through the valorisation of designations of origin, the organization of events, the implementation of communication and marketing strategies aimed at raising awareness of the great Italian olive heritage.
