Italian diving championships, Stefano Belotti wins gold in the one meter springboard

It is an unforgettable day for the Bergamo diving movement which saw the triumph of Stefano Belotti at the Italian Absolute Championships underway at Monumental swimming pool of Turin.

The 19 year old from Zogno won the gold medal in the one-metre springboard, surprisingly beating the synchro world vice-champions Giovanni Tocci (Army/AQA Cosenza) e Lorenzo Marsaglia (Navy/Aniene Rowing Club).

The young man from Bremba struggled in the qualifying rounds, finishing in sixth place in the round led by Matteo Santoro (MR Sport F.lli Marconi) who led the first part of the competition with 391.75 points ahead of Tocci (360.90) and Marsaglia (359.95).

The situation was reversed where the Orobic financier registered for Bergamo Tuffi exceeded 400 points, achieving the new personal best in 407.45 points ahead of Tocci (405.95) and Marsaglia (387.45).

“Maybe I underestimated the preliminary round a bit, as it’s not a race I do very often, while in the final I tried to give my best and found greater concentration – explained Belotti after the match -. The dive in which I am most calm and I succeed best is the last one, the double and a half back and the one where I have to work the most is the double and a half back, which is the one a little less stable but which today was done quite well and in my opinion it was the key that unlocked the race”.

More constant race instead for Francesco Casalini who took silver in the platform race conquered by the Italian-Danish Andreas Sargent Larsen (Fiamme Oro/Aniene Rowing Club).

The Navy standard bearer closed the first round of diving with 379.30 points behind him Riccardo Giovannini (Fiamme Oro, 382.50) and Sargent Larsen (379.35).

However, the leader of the race made some mistakes in the final, leaving the door open for Sargent Larsen who won with 423.20 points ahead of the athlete registered for Bergamo Tuffi who stopped at 393.70 ahead of Simone Conte (MR Sport F.lli Marconi, 383.75).
