The body of the last person missing in the explosion at the Bargi hydroelectric power plant was found on Friday morning, on Lake Suviana, in Emilia-Romagna. The 68-year-old Neapolitan Vincenzo Garzillo was missing from the roll call, while five other people are hospitalized with burns. The searches, which involved over two hundred people, were concentrated on the minus 9 floor of the plant, below lake level. The bodies of three other workers were found on Thursday.
The causes of the explosion still remain unknownmeanwhile the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case for disaster and manslaughter, an attempt is being made to shed light on the chain of subcontracts.
Who are the victims of the explosion
The confirmed victims were between 36 and 73 years old. Vincenzo Franchina, 36 years old, from Sinagra (Messina) but resident in Genoa. Alessandro D’Andrea, 37 years old, born Pontedera (Pisa) Pavel Petronel Tanase, born in Romania and resident in Settimo Torinese, Turin, 45 years old. Adriano Scandellari, 57 years old, born in Padua and resident in Mestre. Paolo Casiraghi, 59 years old, from Milan. Mario Pisani born in Taranto and resident in San Marzano di San Giuseppe (Taranto), 73 years old. Scandellari had been awarded the title of Star of Merit for Labor and Master of Labor by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella in April 2023.
Thousands in the streets against unrelated deaths
Thousands of people took to the streets on Thursday to protest against workplace deaths. The demonstration organized by the unions has filled the streets of central Bologna. Processions were also held in Naples, Turin and Perugia.
