SEG will have to compensate the Nerazzurri defender: this is what the Amsterdam Court of Appeal has decided
The SEG sports agency will have to compensate Stefan de Vrij. This is what the Amsterdam Court of Appeal decided on appeal. The case revolves around De Vrij’s transfer from Lazio to Inter in 2018. Sports management agency SEG was also present at the table. For the Dutch defender, SEG was there to represent his interests during the negotiations, but the agency stated at a hearing in February 2022 that it was acting exclusively on behalf of Inter.
SEG received a commission of 7.5 million euros from the Nerazzurri club for mediation and an additional compensation of 2 million euros. De Vrij only found out much later. The court ruled that SEG actually also acted as a mediator for De Vrij and therefore should have been transparent about the mutual agreements. According to the court, SEG did not do so and thus breached the reporting obligation. SEG will now have to compensate the Nerazzurri with 5.2 million euros according to what the Court of Appeal has established.
