Somma Vesuviana. The musician Vito Ranucci has passed away.

Serious mourning for the city of Somma Vesuviana. Vito Ranucci, an important Neapolitan composer, arranger and saxophonist, has died. The news spread in recent days via social networks. Numerous comments and farewell messages from colleagues and friends. Ranucci had lived for some time in Casamale, in the historic center of the city of Somma. His musical career has been full of successes and important collaborations. Ranucci’s music was based on a dense network of extra-musical, biographical, literary, pictorial references, treated in such a way as to elevate the musical composition to a poetic-philosophical rank. He is considered today among the greatest exponents of the Italian “World” scene, as well as among the most eclectic composers of the new generation.

The carreer

Very active in the world of soundtracks for cinema and theatre, Ranucci has collaborated with Mario Monicelli, Michele Placido, Giorgio Pasotti, Alessandro Haber. The song Cala ‘a sera, after the collaboration with Monicelli, was published in various compilations, produced as a single, programmed by the major Italian networks, and selected for the book-cd Mario Monicelli (Cinedelic), a tribute to the career of the master of cinema , in a selection of 20 of the most beautiful pieces of music from his approximately 100 films, together with famous songs by Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani. Furthermore, Ranucci worked with the playwright director Renato Giordano in large productions such as Satyricon, a musical theatrical representation of Petronius’ text, starring Giorgio Albertazzi, Michele Placido and Maria Letizia Gorga, and in Amore e Psiche, a musical theatrical representation of text by Apuleio with Peppe Barra and André DeLaRoche, for whom he created the soundtracks.

Farewell posts from colleagues

Pain and emotion in Fabio Fiorillo’s farewell post: “When a great artist, an excellent musician leaves, with him every sound and every word goes out. Everything is silent and we know well that those extraordinary melodies, which belonged to him, become silent. I was among the very few lucky ones to have him as my next door neighbor and among those who, even fewer, boasted the best energy that a small courtyard in a village could have. Everything in perfect harmony. Dear Vito, with you not only did the music go out but an important lighthouse for all of us was darkened. Nothing but disappointment. Nothing but great disappointment. Rest in peace”.
