The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, seeded number 11, and the German Alexander Zverev, seeded number 4, will take to the court, protagonists of the second men’s singles semifinal of the Miami Open. Third match at the Stadium from 6.00 pm, not before midnight in Italy. Ninth match between the two: in the previous eight the German has almost always beaten the Bulgarian, leading with a partial of 7-1. The only victory for Dimitrov dates back to 2014, the first direct clash, then the German seems to have taken measures, winning the other seven, challenges played between 2016 and 2023, a season in which there were four matches.
Alexander Zverev beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-3 7-5. For him it is the first semi-final in Miami since 2018, the year in which he reached the final. It is also his 17th time in a Masters 1000 semifinal.
Zverev spoke at the press conference about Jannik’s number one ambitions: “He won the Australian Open, in Rotterdam and he has a record of 19-1 this year, I think. If he has these statistics it is logical that he is on the right path. He has had an incredible performance so far, compared to what Djokovic, Federer and Nadal have done in the past. If he continues like this not only will he be the best in the world, but he will also be the best for the next 10 years“
The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov enters this semi-final after the sensational victory against the number 1 seed, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, with a score of 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 34 minutes of play. Alcaraz’s defeat exposes the number 2 in the ranking to being overtaken by Jannik Sinner, who in the event of final success in Miami would become number 2 in the world. Alcaraz spoke in the press conference after the match lost against Dimitrov: “He played amazing tennis, almost perfect, or rather I can say perfect. I couldn’t find solutions, I couldn’t find a way to make him feel uncomfortable on the pitch. It was a great match from him, I’m very frustrated right now, because he made me feel like I was 13.”
Second consecutive defeat for the Spaniard against the Bulgarian: “Honestly in Shanghai I didn’t play very well, I think I played better today than in the second and third sets in Shanghai. I have to wait a few days to review everything, no time to get down now. There are many tournaments, the season has just started. I have to train 100%, I want to continue training well, to have fun and I can’t wait to play the next tournament.”

Following the second semi-final between Dimitrov-Zverev, the match will be the third from 6.00 pm and will be played no earlier than midnight in Italy.
