It won’t surprise anyone if we say that right now Sony’s list of publications, especially if we’re talking only about first parties and not considering the exclusives (temporary or total) of external teams, is not particularly full of names. Why is PlayStation now “short” of video games?
An answer comes from the well-known journalist Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, according to which the problem is linked to the fact that various games have been postponed and various “live service” projects have failed to achieve the desired objectives. This caused “gaps” in the Japanese company’s publications.

Schreier’s full speech is as follows: “Over the course of the year, PlayStation will publish two flagship titles: Astro Bot, a colorful platformer, and LEGO Horizon Adventures, an adaptation of the Horizon sci-fi series that transforms robot dinosaurs into Lego buildings. Astro Bot will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, while LEGO Horizon Adventures will also arrive on PC and Nintendo Switch.”
“It’s a net contrast with previous Christmas seasons, during which the console maker typically spends hundreds of millions of dollars on big exclusives like Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima, which tell adult-focused stories. But with some major titles delayed and fewer projects in the pipeline due to a shift to “service” games gone awry, PlayStation will be looking to boost holiday console sales by reaching new audiences. The PlayStation 5, released in 2020, has sold 54 million units so far.”
However, it should be noted that this year not only are the two titles mentioned by Schreier planned, but also Concord, a live service that managed to get to the finish line (how long it will last after that will remain to be seen, obviously, but Sony’s hope is that it repeats the success of Helldivers 2). Added to these is the exclusive “external” Silent Hill 2, which will be much more mature than Astro Bot and LEGO Horizon Adventures. In short, there will be games for multiple audiences.
