Adobe will be able to “control” user projects: new in the Photoshop terms of service

The new Photoshop terms of use force users to grant Adobe access to their ongoing projects for reasons of “content moderation“. But what does it mean?

Following the onset of concern from users, Adobe released a post on its official blog for clarify the new terms and conditions. In particular, Adobe has made it clear that it requires a limited license to use user content to improve its services, develop new features and prevent abuse. This use is strictly regulated and aimed exclusively at optimizing Adobe products, without ever assuming ownership of the contents themselves.

Furthermore, the company specified that User content is not used to train AI models without explicit user consent. Adobe’s AI tools, like content-aware fill in Photoshop, analyze images to provide contextual suggestions, but this only happens with users’ permission.

The most important part of the post is, however, update on ways Adobe can access user projects:

“Content” means any text, information, communications, or materials, such as audio files, video files, electronic documents, or images, that you upload, import, incorporate for use, or create using the Services and Software. We reserve the right (but not the obligation) to remove Content or restrict access to the Content, Services and Software if any of your Content is determined to violate the Terms. We do not review all Content uploaded to the Services and Software, but we may use available technologies, vendors or processes, including manual review, to monitor certain types of illegal content (for example, child sexual abuse material) or other abusive content or behavior (for example, activity patterns indicating spam or phishing, or keywords indicating adult content was posted outside the adult wall ).

In short, it is clear that Adobe will not come to “spy” on your personal projects, but rather the control concerns a specific type of content: those illegal.
