Prime Video subscribers with advertising this year could see purchase proposals on Amazon while they watch streaming content or when they pause it.

The novelty was announced by Amazon as a new series of interactive advertising formats that it will make available to sponsors of its Prime Video subscription video service with advertising.

“Love, pause, I want to buy something”

The new interactive ads will appear during commercial breaks or when a viewer chooses to pause the stream. They will be of three types.

Amazon illustrated a “carousel” format, through which the advertiser can show a sliding sequence of multiple products that customers can then explore and purchase also on Amazon’s e-commerce site. The ad will automatically pause content to allow customers to browse, then resume streaming when interaction has ceased.

There will also be “interactive ads during the break”. They will appear when the user pauses the content he is watching and will be shown with translucent graphics. There will be buttons to add products to the cart or to get more information about the products.

Finally, there will be the “trivia ads”, which will manifest themselves as information on certain brands with the possibility of purchasing the products, or as offers which, after the purchase, will give rewards, for example credits for shopping on Amazon.

Amazon has not yet specified when these new advertising formats will be introduced, nor whether there will be any market areas where they will launch first. But it is likely that they will appear as early as this year.
