NVIDIA has updated the application GeForce Nowits subscription cloud gaming service, to make it more easy to install on Steam Decks, the hybrid between a PC and a portable console from Valve. This is excellent news, given that it allows you to play at maximum quality even very demanding titles in terms of hardware requirements, so much so that Deck struggles quite a bit to manage them at medium or low details.
Easier installation
The biggest obstacle between users and the installation of GeForce Now on Steam Deck has so far been represented by the various steps necessary to make it work correctly, which are not exactly within everyone’s reach. We are not talking about particularly complicated operations for those who have a certain familiarity with them Linux and PCs, actually, but it’s clear that the nature of the hardware and its Steam-centric operating system complicates things quite a bit for newbies.
NVIDIA itself explained the news on its official blog: “Members can use a new beta installation method that automatically configures GeForce Now in Gaming mode for Steam Deck. installation script automatically installs Chrome on the device, then adds all the necessary settings to help subscribers connect to GeForce Now and stream their favorite games.”
The update also allows you to navigate GeForce Now menus in the browser using a gamepad, including the Steam Deck one, of course.
NVIDIA points out that with GeForce Now it becomes easier to play non-Steam titles on Steam Deck, such as those from Battle.net, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, GOG.com and all supported Xbox Game Pass games.
It must be said that some configurations however, they must be done manually to play. For example, you need to enter the Steam menu and enable the Gamepad with the Mouse Trackpad when starting GeForce Now. That said, the process has still been made easier and is now within the reach of many more people.
The hope is that other applications will also follow the same path. For example, many users are clamoring for an official application for the Game Pass. Will they be satisfied?
