Housemarque has revealed the contents related to the teaser published yesterday, which as we had imagined was about Returnal but not a sequel or DLCbut simply some projects created to celebrate the third anniversary of the game:
- The graphic novel Returnal: Fallen Asteria
- The Returnal artbook
- The animated comic of the first chapter of Returnal: Fallen Asteria
According to what was announced by the development team, Returnal: Fallen Asteria will be published in an 88-page volume and will be available in bookstores starting from October 22nd, in comic shops starting from October 23rd. However, let’s assume that these are dates linked only to the American territory.
A sequel to Returnal is therefore not on the way, as we had hypothesized (hoped, more than anything else) also based on the timing, compatible at least with the announcement of a possible second chapter arriving in 2025.
The Finnish studio has simply entered into a collaboration agreement with the publisher Dark Horse for the production of a comic book (which you can see below in the animated version of the first chapter – watch out for spoilers) and an artbook.
Housemarque, you’re disappointing us
We fell for it with all our shoesas they say, but reading the comments on Twitter it seems we weren’t the only ones to imagine that such a teaser could concern the announcement of a sequel to Returnal or at least a DLC for the game.
And in fact, a good 50% of the responses to the development team’s post come from users disappointed to say the least from the revelations of a teaser that had generated a lot of expectations; to the point that the authors themselves had tried to tone them down by involving Dark Horse to suggest the nature of the project.
