As we approach mid-2024, rumors relating to the future range are also starting to intensify online Apple iPhone 16starting from the alleged orders placed by the Cupertino company to secure the final components.
Although the official presentation is still months away, which should take place as per tradition towards the end of the third quarter, there are already enough rumors to try to compose a first general picture than we can actually expect from Apple’s next top of the range products. Revolution in sight?
The iPhone 16 range: from capacitive keys to the Capture button
An important turning point, which among other things has been discussed for some time, concerns the Pro models and the possibility that in this generation the classic physical buttons will be definitively retired, including those for power and volume management, to be entirely replaced by a system of capacitive keys.
In short, it seems that in the future we will interact more by touching than by pressing the iPhone buttons, even if for the moment there is nothing official yet.
An indication that Apple is attempting to move in this direction comes, however, from a report by Economic Daily Newsaccording to which the Cupertino company has already commissioned the production of a system of this type at Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, an important player in this sector. You understand well what it would be about a fundamental change of directiona bit like what happened with the Home button many years ago, but we’ll see.
Another intriguing rumor concerns, however, the possible introduction of a new Capture button on all iPhone 16s, which could be physical on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, instead becoming capacitive on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The fact is that its function would, in fact, be that of a shortcut for the Camera.
According to the most recent rumors, the Capture button should find a place on the right side of the iPhone 16, i.e. in the position currently occupied by the mmWave 5G antenna in the United States of America. It should be noted, among other things, that already from the first rumors there was reference to the existence of gestures linked to this button, which would integrate well with the broader discussion of capacitive keys.
More precisely, what we are referring to is the possibility of lateral scrolling on the button to execute quick operations always associated with the Camerafor example zoom, and long press to focus.
There is also talk of a silent switch replaced, also for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, by the Action button already seen with the iPhone 15 Pro.
Other aspects that have been widely discussed in recent times concern, for example, the use of a new battery technology.
Made up of multiple layers, their structure should guarantee, in addition to a greater energy density, a longer duration in terms of life cycle. This breakthrough could also open the door to faster charging, so that finally reach 40W via cable (going beyond the 27W of the iPhone 15).
In terms of dimensions, as far as the Pro models are concerned the displays should be between 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively for the Pro model and for the premium Pro Max variant, for a significant general increase in the diagonal (compared to the 6.1 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro and the 6.8 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max). Furthermore, the generational leap for the processor is inevitable, given that we will move on to the Apple A18/Apple A18 Pro chip, with which it is hoped that the Cupertino company will also finally be able to kick off the era of “on device” artificial intelligenceoffering users a high degree of privacy as part of the much-talked-about AI revolution coming with iOS 18.
We have only skimmed the surface of what is said about the future of Apple devices and it is still early to draw conclusions, but the indications on the next top of the range suggest that this generation could represent a breath of fresh air on the Californian company’s smartphone proposal.
However, before unveiling the iPhone 16 range, the company led by Tim Cook has many other announcements to think about. The reference is to the recent announcement of the Apple Let Loose keynote, which should concern news in the iPad field and will take place on May 7, 2024 starting from 4:00 pm Italian time.
Just a few weeks later, starting from June 10th, the 2024 edition of WWDC will be held (Worldwide Developers Conference), in which there will finally be a way to find out more, precisely, about iOS 18 and on the focus placed on artificial intelligence by Apple.
It’s not long now, but it will probably be worth it, if only to understand, first of all, which path Tim Cook and his associates intend to take on a general level.
