The flowering of plants is appreciated above all for a question of aesthetics, although it is naturally recognized as having a fundamental function of reproduction of many plants through pollination which also involves animals such as bees. This can also be said for hedge plants, which are also equipped with flowers, therefore representing a work of design.
It is possible to draw up a form of list, if not even ranking of plants conceived to be naturally excellent for hedges but which can also be a nice “eye-catcher” from an aesthetic point of view thanks to the flowers.

The hedge is identified as a rather grown form of a specific plant which denotes a shrubby and “thick” behavior enough to constitute a work of separator but also of aesthetic section, so much so that the cutting of hedges at artistic levels is considered an real demonstration of talent.
But when we imagine a hedge, we tend not to link it in the common imagination to the flower, but this is a mistake precisely because it can absolutely serve the purpose even choosing one that develops a flowering.
For example, some varieties should be mentioned such as:
- The Chinese Privet, an oriental plant with a shrubby behavior that grows rather quickly, has medium-large leaves for a shrub but which also develops light if not totally white flowers in clusters from spring. Cold resistant plant.
- Photinia × forzari, which is a form of graft born from some crosses, another shrubby plant with smaller leaves, more “hedge-like” which during “youth” develop a red color but also develop beautiful 5-petaled flowers.
- Piracanta, on the other hand, is a plant that is part of the Rosaceae group, that is, it is a “relative” of the traditional rose, very resistant, capable of living at almost any temperature, both in the sun and in partial shade, this also develops a type of flower very elegant light, to which the development of very characteristic red berries (but not edible) should also be mentioned.
- Finally, the traditional jasmine in its “hedge” version which is a climbing plant that needs fairly frequent pruning and must be isolated from other plants as it is quite “invasive”. It develops flowers with long white petals, particularly in summer.
