Marelli and Hesai, new front lights with integrated Lidar

Marelli (specialized in mobility technologies in the automotive sector Hesai Group (a company specializing in LiDAR technologies for the automotive sector), have announced a collaboration aimed at integrating Hesai’s lidar technology into Marelli headlights.

The integration combines Hesai’s new ATX LiDAR into Marelli’s premium lighting system, promising optimal object detection and enhancing vehicle safety, without compromising aesthetics and aerodynamics and at affordable costs.

The ATX lidar is a compact and customizable long-range sensor specifically designed for automotive applications. Compared to the previous generation, the volume of the new ATX has been significantly reduced (approximately -60%), facilitating its integration within the front light cluster.

Among the advantages of Marelli’s front headlights with integrated Hesai lidar:

  • Enhanced security. Placing the lidar inside the headlamp ensures optimal coverage of the road and surrounding environment, enabling optimal object detection for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving capabilities. The new Marelli headlights are available in two options, adaptable to both economical models and luxury cars.
  • High integration: the compact design of the ATX lidar facilitates integration within the optical assembly, preserving the aesthetics and aerodynamic profile of the vehicle and allowing cost savings.
  • Increased performance: The placement of the lidar inside the lighthouse is presented as an ideal solution, which allows the sensor to be kept clean during operation, maximizing its performance in all weather conditions. The design of the new headlights helps protect the lidar sensor and promote cleaning, contributing to optimal operation to support intelligent driving functions.
