Einstein Telescope, «in 2025 we will have the first technical data»

We will have to wait until 2025 to have the first technical data on the Einstein Telescope project that Italy is applying to host in Sardinia, in the area of the abandoned Sos Enattos mine in Lula.

Meanwhile, work continues on the scientific and diplomatic relations front, with a series of events scheduled between now and the end of the year.

«We have the scientific project», said Antonio Zoccoli, president of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, on the sidelines of the Conference of the scientific attachés of the embassies organized in Turin by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. «We also have the Etic project», he added, referring to the Einstein Telescope Infrastructure Consortium financed with 50 million euros as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Furthermore, explained Zoccoli, «the tender is underway for civil engineering studies, for geological prospecting, to study the configuration of the tunnels, excavation and also to define costs, times and civil engineering works: it is a very important tender ». The results, therefore, will arrive in 2025: «By that date we Italians will already have a series of technical answers». In the meantime, “I think that between now and the end of the year we will have very important scientific and diplomatic contacts at an international level and with European diplomacies.”
