MotoGP, Oliveira-Trackhouse uncertain future: “I’m talking to other brands”

This year Miguel Oliveira got the chance to ride the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP and it was expected that he would be closer to the factory team riders, but that wasn’t the case. His best weekend was in Jerez, where he finished eighth in both the sprint and the race. In the general standings he is sixteenth with 32 points, 8 less than his teammate Raul Fernandez, who rides a 2023 bike and who should only have the full 2024 specs from Silverstone.

MotoGP, what future for Oliveira?

The 29-year-old Portuguese has won five MotoGP races and has shown in the past that he can be very competitive, but Aprilia expects something more from him. With a view to 2025, a final decision has not yet been made on the Trackhouse Racing team line-up, but at this moment Fernandez’s renewal seems very likely. However, there are doubts about Oliveira.

He himself admitted that he is looking around and did not rule out the possibility of changing garages next year: “I think the right approach is to look for something similar to an official saddle – reports Crash.netand then have a factory bike with a lot of technical support. If I can have this, I will be very happy. At the moment, in Trackhouse things are working very well and we are going in a direction that I like. But it is also true that I am talking to other brands to try to understand if I can adapt to their project. It will be a matter of weeks to decide what I will do“.

Staying in Trackhouse Racing is not an option he is ruling out, but he is also exploring other possibilities. One destination he would not mind is the Prima Pramac Racing team, which from 2025 will be tied to Yamaha and no longer to Ducati. Paolo Campinoti’s team is evaluating several riders together with Yamaha and one of these is Fabio Di Giannantonio. Another seat that could interest him is the one that Marc Marquez will leave free in the Gresini team, even if these days Jack Miller is indicated as the favorite to occupy it. In the event of Oliveira’s departure, Trackhouse Racing could hire the American Joe Roberts from Moto2.
